There is a need to expand the landfill, therefore we must manage it more diligently as per the Sahtu Land and Water Board (SLWB) in order for our water license to remain in compliance.
The Town has completed clearing of trees (fire break) surrounding the site, and the decommissioning of existing groundwater monitoring wells. The construction of landfill phases 4 and 5, installation of new groundwater monitoring wells, storm water management ditching, and the relocation of new perimeter fence will be undertaken in 2022.
Landfill hours are now in effect:
Monday to Friday: 10am-7pm
Saturday: 9am-4pm
Sunday: Closed
Landfill and Public Works staff will continue educating the public on proper dumping procedures and accepted waste.
The landfill is managed by the Town. We use grant funds and rented equipment to manage the solid waste site and at times, we are also able to call upon our Civil Works contractor when needed.
