Press Release: Line 4-90 Repair Project Impact
The Council for the Town of Norman Wells is aware that Imperial Oil Resources’ project for the repair of Line 4-90 has been sent by the Sahtu Secretariat Incorporated for Environmental Assessment. We have had ongoing dialogue with Imperial as this process has unfolded.
Immediate and future impacts on our community residents and businesses, as well as solutions resulting from this situation, are a priority for the Town Council.
Mayor Pope and MLA Danny McNeely will be visiting Ottawa the week of Oct. 9th-13th to inform decision-makers of our situation and pursue assistance. The meetings will involve information sharing with federal government ministers in partnership with GNWT ministers to help relevant federal departments understand our prohibitive cost of living due to increased transportation costs for heating fuel, groceries, and all other commodities being flown in. We will also meet with the Senate Committee on Transportation to update them on the lack of barge transportation and the urgent need for an all-season highway. Additionally, we will be meeting with representatives from Minister Fraser’s office regarding funding for MVH.
We will keep you informed of the facts and our progress as we move forward for our community.
Respectfully,
Council for the Town of Norman Wells
