Happy Canada Day Norman Wells!
Canada Day is a time for celebration where we mark the many wonderful things about our country, our beautiful town and region. We have many beautiful lakes, waterfalls, rivers, mountains; we have diverse cultures; as well as the rich history of the peoples in our community and region.
Canada Day is also a time for reflection. It is important for us to recognize that not everyone has equally enjoyed the same benefits and freedoms as some Canadians.
It is important for us to acknowledge the lasting legacy of historic government policies, the negative impacts of which remain today.
The town of Norman wells council is committed to taking steps to address reconciliation which include efforts by the Advancement of Equity and Inclusion Committee such as cultural awareness projects. Council is also committed to supporting the TRC’s Calls to Action as they relate to municipalities. We must commit to a better future by doing our best to create an inclusive, equitable and diverse community for all.
