With hot weather returning, and COVID-19 restrictions lifted, more people will be enjoying summer time at Jack Fish Park.
This notice is to remind everyone of several laws in an effort to promote the safety and enjoyment of all people using the facilities:
S. 85(1) Northwest Territories Liquor Act:
Except as provided by this Act and the regulations, no person shall consume liquor in a public place.
S 2(1) Northwest Territories Cannabis Smoking Control Act:
Subject to subsection (2) and the regulations, no person shall smoke cannabis in a public place.
S. 175(1) Criminal Code:
Everyone who not being in a dwelling-house, causes a disturbance in or near a public place,
(i) by fighting, screaming, shouting, swearing, singing or using insulting or obscene language,
(ii) by being drunk, or
(iii) by impeding or molesting other persons,
It is important to understand that any person found guilty of consuming liquor or smoking cannabis in a public place and/or disturbing the peace could be subject to a fine or jail time.
Campsites are not public places, whereas the dock and common picnic areas are.
If anyone has questions regarding these, or any other laws, feel free to contact a member of the Norman Wells RCMP.
We will be working closely with the Town of Norman Wells to ensure everyone has a safe summer.
