A message from Imperial Oil Resources to the residents of Norman Wells:
Imperial Oil Emissions Reduction Project
Climate change is a critical challenge and oil and gas industry has an important role to play in helping our country achieve a sustainable future. Imperial is committed to reducing our environmental footprint, and we are pleased to share that we have initiated construction of a project intended to reduce methane emissions generated at our Norman Wells operation.
The project requires a number of vertical beams be driven into the ground to provide the foundation for some new structures around our tank farm. This work will generate noise that will be audible in the Town, specifically, hammering sounds, from approximately 7:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. on most days for approximately one month beginning Friday, August 12th.
Imperial appreciates that this noise may be a temporary nuisance for our neighbours, and we appreciate your understanding that in this instance achieving emissions reductions in Norman Wells will require new construction and deploying modern technology. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out to Lisa Duncan at lisa.a.duncan@exxonmobil.com .
