Wildland Fire Update for September 8th, 2017

Two-hundred forty-nine (249) wildland fires have been reported to date in the Northwest Territories (NWT). Seventy-seven (77) fires are active, and one hundred seventy-two (172) fires are out. 101, 924, 3 hectares of forested land in the NWT has been affected to date.

** Update for Fire FS-017 near Nahanni Butte**...
Fire FS-017, approximately 5 kilometres west of the community of Nahanni Butte, was last assessed at 7,800 hectares. This fire will continue to be assessed for values protection in the community. There is no threat to the community of Nahanni Butte at this time.

Inuvik region
There have been twenty-five (25) fires to date. All fires have been declared out. Total area affected in the region this season is 46, 159 hectares.

Sahtu Region
There have been thirty-five (35) fires to date. All fires have been declared out. Total area affected in the region this season is 155,946 hectares.

Deh Cho Region
Twenty-two (22) fires have been reported to date. Fourteen (14) fires have been declared out, and eight (8) fires are being monitored for values protection.
Fire FS-017, approximately 5 kilometres west of the community of Nahanni Butte, was last assessed at 7,800 hectares. This fire will continue to be assessed for values protection in the community. There is no threat to the community of Nahanni Butte at this time. Smoke may be an issue depending on wind. North Slave Region
Sixty-seven (67) fires have been reported to date. Twenty-eight (28) have been declared out, and thirty-nine (39) are being monitored for values protection. Total area affected in the region to date is 102,303 hectares.

South Slave Region
There have been one hundred (100) fires to date. Seventy (70) fires are out, and 30 fires are being monitored for values protection. Total area affected for the region to date is 705, 072 hectares.

Weather conditions are forecast seasonal in the coming days with showers expected in most regions and cooler temperatures.
